Lightning v Steel Avenger. Quite a long fight this one, well fought. Steely is hard to tip over due to a high centre of gravity. Lightning is a classic low wedge shape but has a dodgy tyre. Who will win this first Semi Final to go through to the Grand Final of 1/10th scale radio control Mini Wars? None of these fights were staged. This is all as they happened.

The background was made from thin hardboard, spray painted grey and silver. The booths were made from old take-away food containers, with toy soldiers painted up and stuck inside with gaffer tape. Stick on a few old wheels and odd shapes and the effect is complete. More info on Part 10.

www.calvertfilm.fsnet.co.uk to see how the full size 100Kg heavyweight Lightning did on the real Robot Wars series. We were actually team mates with Steel Avenger in that, on one show.

  • A high centre of gravity means they can be more easily tipped. Need to sort that out.

  • @andysido It also meant that Steel Avenger would easily self-right when put on its side. Plus it made things entertaining :-)

  • @Calvertfilm Oh, it makes sense now xD Did you make the motorised bases yourself? :)

  • @andysido They are radio control micro cars stuck on with Blu-Tack to paper bodies. Details are in Part 10. Micro cars you may be able to source on eBay. If you want to download some of our paper bodies, just scroll to the end of Part 10 and the web address is there on the video. Free to download. Have fun.

  • @Calvertfilm ....or click the link on the description in Part 10 for paper robots.

  • @Calvertfilm Oh right. I just thought that maybe you could add a sort of radio-controlled arm which shoots out and you can then use it to power a flipper or axe weapon :)
