Harket contributing to peace album
STAVANGER (VG): Morten Harket said no to being part of a celebrity reality show taking place in the jungle, to be shown on TV in the UK. Then it's easier to say yes to Erik Hillestad and his peace album.

"The concept of living in the jungle for some time could have been a good idea, but there was someting about the way this program dealt with nature that doesn't match up with my convictions. The spiders were only supposed to be disgusting, as opposed to being an integrated and important part of nature. I get a lot of offers, but it has to be right", the apparently eternally young vocalist says.

On Monday, the album "Songs Acorss Walls Of Separation" is released - and those themes are much more appealing to Harket.

Kirkelig Kulturverksted's project manager Erik Hillestad had a vision four years ago, about making an album with songs about walls that separate people in the world today.

"A rich world is protecting itself against a poor world. The album is coincidentally released just as the Norwegian government is signalling a more restrictive asylum politics", Hillestad says.

On the new release - which comes with a 64-page book - songs from Palestine, Morocco, Syria, Kashmir, Cyprus and Mexico are presented.

"The common thing about these countries is that the population is separated by walls that either go physically across the country, or splits a population because they are entrenched against a rich neighbouring country where large parts of the people live and work. People are separated from their families and friends because of the political situation", Hillestad says.

He got the idea for the album from a Cypriotic woman he met in Jerusalem.
