The guest, Dr. Avtar Singh has recently authored and published a new book entitled- "The Hidden Factor: An Approach for Resolving Paradoxes of Science, Cosmology and Universal Reality". The book was motivated by his personal interest in pursuing a scientific search for understanding reality, purpose, and meaning in the universe.

About theVideo

During this program Dr. Singh explains the role of consciousness in explaining the observed behavior of the universe and resolving its mysteries. The consciousness permeates each and everything in the universe in the form of the zero-point energy or the vacuum energy of the empty space. The consciousness in the universe provides for its purpose and the meaning of life in its fundamental eternity, omnipresence, and free will. The time is a symptom or property of unconsciousness of the inanimate matter, and not a universal reality or truth. Dr. Singh discusses scientific answers to questions such as: What is the relationship between understanding the universe and understanding the human mind, consciousness, and religion?; What are the philosophical perspectives of the results of this new understanding?; How does it address the conflict between science and religion?; What perspective it provides on the current debate on Creation vs. Evolution theories? Is time a reality?; Does the universe have a purpose? Is there God? What is the purpose and meaning of life?

  • Hmm... Maybe it's just too hidden in metaphysical jargon for me. I re-listened and still didn't get the interpretation you got from the video. I agree with what you said, though. That is where "good" and "evil" come from. I wouldn't, however, call this "good" and "evil" because these are loaded terms that don't fully capture the moral ambiguity of tribal decisions about legal and illegal acts.

  • EB,

He goes into good and evil around 5m00.

From Dr. Singh is interesting in that he believes that morality evolved from the identification by a group of what is conducive to life and happiness also known as wisdom, and the selection by social organisation of humans that are more stable and reproduction capable using this wisdom.

Good is what is moral to that societys way of living and evil is what is not. Like legal and illegal. Religion would be a visualisation, a metaphor, gathering.

  • True, we can learn about how to structure our own morality (or society around it) by studying the evolution of conscience and other related matters, but I don't think of this as "good" and "evil". Also, if I recall correctly, the video never goes close to these issues.

  • He did not clam that morality is a scientific issue but he could of. There are too many steps in the evolution of conscience, the morals. (not counciousness).

    Very interesting!

  • And so evil exists and good exists.

  • Interesting interview - the title throws me off, though. What do "good" and "evil" have to do with science? I don't think that Dr. Singh actually claimed in the video that morality was a scientific issue.

    Cheers!
