The Kyrenia Liberty at harbour at Leros,during its voyage to deliver gifts from Cyprus and various Greek islands which its visited en route to deliver these to host city, Athens, of the Olympic Games 2004.
On 30th April 2004, eve of Cyprus' accession to the EU, Takis Neofytou of the Chrysokava Foundation speaks about the intended celebrations.
"Continuing its cultural and scientific expedition through the Aegean on the occasion of the Olympic Games, the Kyrenia Liberty will participate in celebrations of Cyprus' accession to Europe in its own way. Early tomorrow morning the flag of the EU will be raised on the mast of our ship while a musically-minded member of the crew will accompany this on the flute with the hymn to Europe. The celebration will continue with the arrival of the ship at Lipsi where it is expected to receive a warm welcome and in cooperation with the municipality of Lipsi the ship and its crew will celebrate Cyprus' accession to the EU with a special ceremony."
