Thomas Edison, the inventor of the motion picture camera, filmed some name trains at the turn of the 19th century. Lehigh Valley's Black Diamond Express, PRR Philadelphia Express, CNJ, Southern Pacific's Sunset Route (Passenger and freight) and from the San Francisco area Shay steam locomotive "498" which pulled tourists up the the slopes of MT Tamalpais. Filmed 1896, 1897 & 1898. Edison worked in and out of his laboratories in Menlo Park & West Orange, NJ.
