Please subscribe & comment thanks .some pictures from south co sligo also known as coleman country.
The Coleman Country is the area of South Sligo, North Roscommon and North-East Mayo which contains the village Killavil, close to which legendary fiddler Michael Coleman (1891-1946) was born. Michael Coleman is probably the most important Irish musician ever. Without his effort Irish traditional music could have been exterminated. Coleman's articulation, phrasing, bowing and dynamics became a 'standard' style in fiddle playing. Through his prowess he exercised direction on repertoire, which has effects even in our time.
The Coleman Country has had a strong expression in music for more than 150 years, involving fife and drum bands, fiddle playing for dancing, flute and tin whistle, - and last but not least original old-style bodhrán playing, known locally as handstriking.
This sean-nós-form of bodhrán playing is well researched and documented and there is no doubt that South Sligo is a historical hotbed for bodhrán playing and bodhrán making in Ireland.

I'm sure you are as good a fiddler as any other farmer, Martin and good luck to you! Thought that the Coleman magic might have been in the blood, so to speak! We both love that sort of country and really must come over. We'll let you know when to get the kettle on!

  • @Snicke22 thanks
