Mar 27, 1997; lecture covered by C-SPAN, entitled Material Welfare and Standard of Living. Mr. Simon talked about his book, The Ultimate Resource 2. In it he cites many scientific studies which are counter to popular wisdom; for example, that the environment is cleaner, that people eat better than ever, that natural resources are more available and that life expectancy is greatly increased.

  • great find!

  • @acavideo and you're what - a lemur or something? No, you're a human (just) and you are so wealthy you have a computer and internet connection to pose these silly questions - something people in a state of nature don't have.

Watch the video and he explains why people-haters like you expect him to wear horns, so he does.

  • Sorry but Julian was wrong: For 2006, humanity's total ecological footprint was estimated at 1.4 planet Earths – in other words, humanity uses ecological services 1.4 times as fast as Earth can renew them. We cannot make/recycle/replace resources as quickly as Earth so the cost of replacing ecosystem services with our own inventions/ideas is always greater and more costly than natures free methods, yet we still choose to damage ecosystem services?!

  • More on this issue at "One Planet, One Child" and "Overconsumpulation".

  • @acavideo You are anti-human. Fuck the frogs. Humans come first.

  • I remeber so fondly the experience of stumbling across this lecture by him on C-span all those years ago. It was such a joy, a comfort against this world which has been blighted by the niggardly snears of the Malthusians.

  • Actually if you would read one of his books you'd find out he does not only care about HUMAN welfare. He actually shows how the environment is improving for all species and not just humans. But it is much easier for you to throw out a line showing your ignorance.

  • simply a genius, in the face of people-haters and gaia-worshippers. :D

  • @meadowfabricsdotcom lol he probably is a lemur
