Not my favourite song, but she could sing a train timetable and make it sound great. What a fantastic performance, thanks so much for putting this up.

@Nannanabanana7 - I can't imgaine 'passion' being employed in any rendition of this song but if you check out Vic Damone's recording you'll get a good impression of just how much of an ass you could appear if you tried. This song would have remained for me, like many other 'songs from the shows' , way on the other side of 'hip'. However, Blossom Dearie's interpretation and arrangement of this tune is nothing short of amazing and this particular performance takes the biscuit.

Since 1953 in Monterey, Blossom has made my heart skip a beat. Nothing changes , at 76 I have Afib andd it's all fault. Love her

@LittleJimmySouthern Right on point! Well said.

@Nannanabanana7 You misunderstood me completely. I never meant to imply that you had no taste. No insult meant. Just that a lot of singers do not have taste and people are used to hearing over sung , over - riffed singing these days. What she is doing here is definitely from the cool school of jazz which is an acquired taste. Just another way of going about it. It seems you are not a fan of that school of singing. Which is fine. We don't all have to like the same stuff.

@Vazmusic I respect your opinion - PLEASE respect mine. I was in NO way being rude or mean, but your "subtle" accusation that I lack taste is just that.
ohbuyyes, Do you have this song by Eddie Fisher? It's on his Young and Foolish album.
Thanks for posting this, I always liked this song.

She lacks passion --- just my opinion... :)

@Nannanabanana7 - thanks for your comment - and your opinion is valued and welcome. May I offer this one comment: her "lack" of passion is an interpretive decision, not a reflection of her musical feeling.

@ohbutyes, Please fix the title; Wiktionary says "surrey - A light carriage seating two or four, drawn by horse."
Her phrasing of the lines at 3:52 is sublime, and her trill within "surrey-with" at 0:40 that's echoed by the vibrato moments later in "fringe" is magic. Wow-o-wow!
