After the 4 line-in modification now the optimalisation of the directional sensitivity. For this I had to open the H2 and to turn the microphones. Now there is a 4x 90 degree pattern. An outside shield helps to get a better directional resolution.

  • Thanks for your videos!

Is there a way to record from the line input AND the on-board mics simultaneously?

  • Greg, that's the better part of this mod. You can record, in the 4 channel mode, 2 mic's AND 2 line-in simultaneously. It is not that difficult to make a fader on each channel to MIX line-in and microphone signal before recording. Deadendkid, I don't see any problem changing the elements of the H2 for other 'better' one's. The space for the elements is limited.

  • nice vid, im thinking of getting the zoom H2. i love how it has the dramatic priest music in the background while you ''dissect'' the H2 lol

  • this is just silly. you are changing the standard "deaf" points of the stereo image for another ones, you may get better stereo, but you get no good "center" so you would lose a lot of bass and harmonics there in behalf of more surrounding sounds. this is only can work fine in a situation where you have 2 or more sources pointing towards the new mics positions but no more than that. and you also mess 3D pan. The mics are put that way for a reason. even on a Sony D1 which costs 10 times more

  • Id love to know if I can take the elements out of an audiotechnica stereo mic I have and replace one of the sets with them...or even buying some other elements online that would rock in this unit.

  • Digging ur mod videos..

My friend has a broken zoom h4. Do you think it's possible to put the h4 mics into the h2?

(Skipping the obvious: losing the 360 degree ability and having to mod the case/grill to support the extra size)

keep up the mods please-these are so cool.

  • I would be too scared. lol

  • nice vid, I'd love to hear before and after recordings.

  • hahahahahaha

    I definitely wouldn't do this... but, i hope i works 4 u.

  • hell yeah! If you can't open it, you don't own it! This is great. Although I am worried about the mic modifications, can you let us hear a before and after for that glued, cardboarded placement of those mics and the noise from those additions, etc. I'm excited also to hear that separation (2 examples 5 seconds each, each channel stereo set maybe?) Keep being awesome!
