Champion Spark Plug part number 7989 made specifically for late model Ford 3-valve V8 engines, superior design over the original 2 piece shell that often separates upon removal. The Champion Plug is made with a 1 piece machined shell a real problem solver.

  • Sorry, but it sounds like a bunch of shade tree mechanics here. I (a 24 year ASE master mechanic with my own AAA approved shop for the last 18 years) have seen this problem first hand and used the Champion plugs with no problem. Push the stock plugs past 120k miles and you will have nightmares getting them out. TRUST ME!!!!

  • @organdonor2b - And the 11 page Ford TSB is overkill? Replace a set of the OE Motorcraft/Autolite plugs in one of these engines and let me know where you think the bull is.

  • @1stinkbear Fram filters and Autolite plugs are made by the same company. Champion plugs aren't bad at all....they work great.

  • After only 20,000 miles the Champion Plug 7989 has caused many problems for the Ford 5.4L 3V. Trust me, you do not want to use these plugs! Go with the redesigned Motorcraft plug for the BEST possible performance.

  • The coils go out too.The rotunda tool is out of date.Lisle has the better updated tool kit out.The tsb does not work, plugs still break. My Matco dealer stocks the Lisle kit and sells them right away to Ford garages.

  • You KNOW the narrator is full of bull when he starts using terms like: "Service Challenge" and "Service Hurdle"...

  • @fattuning999

1/2 a turn is for a new gasket seat plug, the 7989 is a taper seat plug, which the box says you only turn, 1/16 of a turn after finger tight, no wonder you snapped it off!

  • Another great design by Ford. Thanks guys........... retards.

  • thanks but i allready took out the plug easy out fixed it it was easier than i thought DONT USE CHAMPIONS SPARK PLUGS they are low quality

    metal in it

  • Sorry to hear that! its been a week since you posted your message, have you resolved the problem yet?
