ABSTRACT

Who, Why, and What the EFF? Ask the Electronic Frontier Foundation about Copyright, Innovation, and the NSA

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is one of the leading online civil liberties groups. Join EFF attorneys as they deliver the the latest on the fight against warrantless wiretapping, promoting increased government transparency, and protecting your right to use the media you own. From the DMCA to DefCon, NSA to RIAA, they'll spell out what's happening where law, tech, and civil liberties collide.

Panelists are Fred von Lohmann, Marcia Hofmann, and Kurt Opsahl.

Fred von Lohmann is a senior staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, specializing in intellectual property matters. In that role, he has represented programmers, technology innovators, and individuals in a variety of copyright and trademark litigation, including MGM v. Grokster, decided by the Supreme Court in 2005.

Marcia Hofmann is an EFF staff attorney working on government transparency, civil liberties, and intellectual property issues. Along with her colleague David Sobel, she established EFF's FOIA Litigation for Accountable Government (FLAG) Project.

Kurt Opsahl is a Senior Staff Attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation focusing on civil liberties, free speech and privacy law. Before joining EFF, Opsahl worked at Perkins Coie, where herepresented technology clients with respect to intellectual property, privacy, defamation, and other online liability matters, including working on Kelly v. Arribasoft, MGM v. Grokster and CoStar v. LoopNet. For his work responding to government subpoenas, Opsahl is proud to have been called a "rabid dog" by the Department of Justice.

  • @billyboy385 Yeah, these guiys are doing a big job blocking the creeping crud. Obama, Bush, Dem, Rep it doesn't matter they are playing "I Rule You" games in the land of We The People. We rule ourselves, apparently there are bureaucrats, Politicians, that think they have "noble Rights". That NEEDS to change, and not change according to Obama.

  • Great presentation about these issues:)

    Speaking of...

I do my very best to block Google from getting any info from me.

I don't "opt out"because all that crap is blocked straight from the get-go.

  • Good stuff!

  • Did some research on EFF.

Funny, one of their founders was Steve Wozniak. The man who also started Apple Computers-- the company EFF is suing. lol.

  • Check out 47:23 and further.. Money money money money. sue, money money. sue.. The way this works is childish. Needs a more modern mature system.
