Bruce Grey of the Royal New Zealand Air Force built a radio controlled model aircraft - the Heinkel He 178 - propelled by a jet turbine, a replica of the world's first jet plane flown by Flight Captain Erich Warsitz on August 27, 1939. First flight of the model was on January 28, 2006.

  • This is the only Operational jet the RNZAF now have

  • I can't imagine what's to dislike. Nazi bigshots disliked Heinkel and called him "that Schwabian Jackass." He was always a pioneer and immediately liked what he saw in von Ohain's working model engine. This model is 'outta sight!" My hat's off to ya!

  • Hope you enjoy 10 minuts of flight, because during the real testing of this fullsize it only produce 1100 lbs of thrust, and it guzzled alot of fuel that the plane only last for 10 minuts.

  • Very interesting ..... educationally and scientifically. to see an unusual aircraft illustrated.

    History made real through modelling.

    Flying very impressive too.
