@vincent4500 The proper way to understand the passage is that death and HADES are cast into GEHENNA. Hades is the Greek equivalent of Sheol, the abode of the spirits. Gehenna, although it takes its name from the Jerusalem rubbish dump of the time, seems to be symbolic of where it all goes. And just because Catholics believe something, doesn't make it wrong. Re your Sodom quote, if you quote me chapter and verse for the smoke from Sodom rising up forever then I'll go and have a look and a ponder.

@barttheanorak in revelations it states categorically that 'death and hell ' shall cease once and for all after the coming of jesus...now how could death and hell cease /be destroyed if hell is immortal and infinite/part of Gods plan? if God is loving and kind why does he sound like the devil in that he wants to torture, women, children and innocent 13 year olds with punishment worse than a paedophile...? a paedophile can only harm a child/teen of 13yrs finitely, so that would make God worse !

"the wages of sin is death"!! it does not say the "wages of sin" is immortality and torure - which clearly would be life, hellish immortal life...how about you use that brain of yours to look at your beliefs critically....blind faith is the enemy of truth...whether in religion, or even blind faith in aetheism /evolutionism...

@barttheanorak lol! the same expression 'the smoke of their torment goes on forever and ever' in relation to the fire and brimstone poured onto Sodom and Gomorrah...is sodom still burning now?? nope! is smoke emanating from Sodom still today?? nope! so your point is answered.. Ps the concept of eternal torture in hell is one of the CORE CATHOLIC DOCTINES which has been accepted without question by most fundamental churches - that includes Protestantism...Catholicism is the Whore of Babylon !

@vincent4500 If the lake of fire refers to annihiliation then why does it say in the same Book of Revelation that tells of the lake of fire that "the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name." Rev 14:11.

Hell is real, Jesus warns you not to end up in that place of everlasting tourment. Repent of your sins, before you reach your final destination.

im a seventh day adventist &we dont believe Hell is consistent with the scriptures...i suggest you check this out..Hell was a pagan concept added to the bible in 3rd century...before the latin translation bible was the Hebrew Torah...the Torah predates latin roman bible by 1700 yrs...and it is near identical except it talks of 'annihilation' the 'second death'...that is god will destroy those who are 'sinners'....the lake of fire refers to the fact these will be anniliated..hell is evil concept!

Kevin, fear of Hell has hold of you . It is imaginary. It is in your head.
You say that "ALL who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved". But you yourself told me that only those elected by God (the sheep) will be saved.
Is there a conflict between your desire to save all others, and submitting to the will of God that doesn't have such intentions?
I hope that you will one day let go of that fear and do good things out of love of God and people instead of tainting them by fear of Hell.
No there's no conflict. All those who truly want to come to Jesus do so because they've been elected by God. No one will be suffering in Hell who truly wanted to come to God. Hell is real. And one day unless you repent you will perish there. Everytime you sin you are storing up more wrath to be revealed against you on the Day of Judgement.
