I can no longer hear the crickets, it is sad
but it's an absence I can overcome.
The crickets' song is not an irreplaceable song
but still, I remember a time.
It was then, it was one spring, I was just seventeen years old
and he was of course my young Casanova.
He spoke of warmth and tenderness, something I have forgotten
but he promised me something.

Eternal love, yes I think it was something like that he swore. I was a dragon's prisoner, he was a fairy tale Prince and I woke up simply because of the Prince's kiss. We looked each other in the eye while the crickets sang their serenade, I remember that I was glad but that's almost all I remember. Once it can happen it could happen quite soon technically, this destiny was ours, so we huddled in a crowd in a corner of the earth and someone searches for words.

It was at a time that there was a world that was not very important
but it was our home and crickets sang in the evening.
Spring makes everything verdant and it was quite good - at least in some places.
Now the sun has been hidden by the blue rime (frost) of Aniaras
and we doubt that good gods exist.
But I remember once, the crickets sang their song
to those who had ears to hear.
Love, faith and hope, was something we discovered
but it is almost all I remember

Rarely there comes an artist of such depth as Zarah Leander. Although I don't understand these lyrics, the emotion and passion in her voice touch my heart. Bravo, Ms. Leander, Bravo!
I heard Birgit talk about this show on the radio. She said that everyone in the studio was crying when Zarah sang this! (including Birgit herself.) To all you non-Swedes who can't understand this beautiful poetic text : it is a vision of the future. A cold and hostile place (after a nuclear war?) and people remember the days of the past. When there was still love, faith and hope! (well there still is.)
