Sin always wounds the sinner.

There's a story for this! O RLY??? You may want to read it if you can't make sense of the video. XD
Okay. This didn't turn out -quite- as well as I'd hoped, but I really wanted to get it finished and uploaded. There are a couple of parts where it gets a bit weird, and I know it probably feels hurried at the end, but..bear with me. XD I'm still getting used to Vegas. So, all things considered, I -adore- this video.
One of these centuries, I'll learn masking. I will.

Cloud, Tifa, and Vincent were all comrades in arms. After the fall of Meteor, Cloud and Tifa started living together, and Vincent returned to solitude. However, one day, he leaves the Crystal Cave, only to find Tifa there, waiting for him. She had discovered that Cloud contracted Geostigma, but, when she confronted him about it, he left. It isn't help dealing with Cloud that she needs, it's simply..someone to vent to. She is tired of him running away, tired of him trying to shoulder his burdens alone without letting her at least -try- to help carry that weight.
"Tifa?"
"He just..wants to fight alone."
The words come out unexpectedly, before he can think enough to stop them.
"You sure this is about fighting?"
Cloud is still lost in his guilt, and he won't let her save him. Vincent knows this, because it is something he's experienced before. His own guilt over Lucrecia is still there, but for a moment, the look on Tifa's face outweighs that. Perhaps, if he can help her, he can be one step closer to atoning for his sins. Vincent returns to Edge with Tifa, if for no other reason than to make sure that she's all right. He'd always cared for her, but he was never one to get in the way of another's happiness. But the way Cloud -abandons- her, the way he expects that she'll just...be there. ..It's almost more than he can stand. When Vincent convinces her to rest, and assures her that he'll be there when she wakes up..he means it.
When Cloud comes back, he is startled to see Vincent there. Vincent tells him that he needs to stop this. Stop running, stop leaving Tifa behind and just expecting that she'll be there when he comes back, because one day, she won't. The truth behind this frustrates Cloud, and he points his sword at Vincent on instinct. However, Tifa chooses this time to appear, and, shocked by the display, runs off. The silent question Cloud has for Vincent hangs in the air. Why?
"That was my sin. And this..this is my punishment." He abandoned Lucrecia just as Cloud was abandoning Tifa.
Cloud thinks he understands, and so, they go to find Tifa. When they find her, she is at the cliff where Zack died, looking downward. When she'd returned to the bar, she'd decided to come here on a whim..perhaps to see if that dead hero would give her strength. When Cloud and Vincent approach, she is hesitant, and she steps backwards. However, one misstep and she's gone, and there's nothing Vincent nor Cloud can do to stop it. Vincent falls to the ground beneath the weight of the knowledge that he has failed again. And again, Cloud has a single question for him.
"Are sins ever forgiven?
Vincent lies. "I've never tried."
