This is video from June 11th, 2009 edition of Countdown with Keith Olbermann. They describe von Brunn's ideologies in particular detail which both demonizes the Republican Party and its members beliefs but also lumps in advocates for Constitutional government. I have pointed out several instances where they connect von Brunn's motives for attacking a guard at the National Holocaust Museum with beliefs held by peaceful citizens. This type of characterization is used by the media and has been seen after many disasters like the connection created between Islam and the attackers on 9/11. These tactics are only useful in dividing people among party lines and cleanly labeling people based on left or right, liberal or conservative, when in reality most people who hold any of these beliefs never act out violently.

Right-Wing is a vague term and encompasses many Americans. This attack was motivated primarily by race but the conversation has gravitated to politics and which party is to blame for their rhetoric that might have sent this man to take violent action. Today's freedom movement is one that advocates peace and non violence. This man acted as an individual and not a representative of any cause but his own in taking the life of Stephen Jones.

To better understand how a more accurate political spectrum looks take the World's Smallest Political Quiz at http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html
It is in the shape of a diamond where
Up - is least government (libertarianism)
Left- Some Civil Liberties, Less Financial Freedom (Democrats)
Right-Some Financial Freedom, More Control of Civil Liberties (Republicans)
Down-Government control of all aspects of life (Statism)

  • James von Brunn was a nutcase, no dispute on that point exists. And I've been to his website (along with millions of other curiosity-seekers) but I would hardly call his writings "coherent". Olbermann is giving him a bit too much credit in the brain department.

That been said, the trigger-happy retard in this incident was a right-wing element. He may have been a defective product, but he was none-the-less a product of the right-wing factory.

  • How quickly these republicans will defend assassination.

First they gave up on 'fiscal conservatism', then they started supporting Bush no matter how big the screwups.

Is republicanism really just a joke?

  • @TheRivetthead I will say whatever I want to say, and I don't take orders from the right...

  • @PsychoPunk1965 shut up lefty

  • damn libreal bias

  • James von Brunn was a right-wing nutcase, not a leftist nutcase. Rush Limbaugh is such a fucking partisan hack. The extreme left and the extreme right sometimes have the same enemies, but Rush is out of line to lump James von Brunn. As far as hatred of neocons; many paleoconservatives and libertarians do not have kind words for neocons, so Mr. Limbaugh is out to lunch and just utterly wrong as usual. The same goes for the other right-wing nutcases out there.

  • They both are guilty - but if you want to talk about the "O'Reilly" of the left - then that honor goes to Robert Greenwald and his organization Brave New Films.

  • I'm happy to take all the level of insults and rebuttals you can dish and I'm perfectly happy to provide to you with the solid counter-arguements to each of your claims. It can be noted the left is very much guilty of having espoused the same level of hypocritical behaviour as they claim the right is guilty of.

  • u conservatives love to dish it...(like limbaugh here, and zell miller's 2004 RNC speech) ....but u cant take it.

von brunn's beliefs (along with many republicans) ...want all abortions banned.....want our borders closed, and to deport all aliens b/c they are racists....and von brunn and conservatives are big NRA supporters.

  • Can you provide an intelligent arguement rather than resort to insults? That tactic has already become very old and childish. Von Brunn was neither conservative (because if he were, he would never uphold the beliefs he held for so long) or liberal - in my opinion, he was another insane individual who resorted to breaking the law in order to further his ill-founded hatred.
