Produced by an Oscar-winning studio for the Global Drug Policy Program of the Open Society Institute, International Drug Policy: Animated Report 2009 highlights some of the disastrous effects of drug policy in recent years and proposes solutions for a way forward.

In the run-up to the March 2009 UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs meeting—where the future path of international drug policy will be determined—this film seeks to show that pursuing a "drug-free world" can lead to more harm than good.

  • Drug abuse should be a healthcare problem, not a legal problem.

Not until Antonio Maria Costa is sacked will UN drug policy even begin to get sane.

  • Very good video! Legalize, harm-reduce, control and taxate!

  • capital punishment for drug abuse!

  • Speaking as an old age pensioner I completely agree with the implicated policies of this video. It is absurd that we should waste so much resource on penalising users. We should regulate the use of drugs, enforcing quality and exacting taxes. Imagine if alcohol was banned and it was mobsters who controlled its sale! End prohibition I say and bring on education instead.

  • You won't stop it! youtube.com/watch?v=tX1T3uKDU0s&feature=related

  • youtube is majority young people and liberals. Thats why

  • If anyone agree's with thiis video then i recommend looking up Professor David Nutt. the guy knows what he's talking about.

  • Drug-Use should be under Health Service NOT Law-Enforcement. As was the state of affairs until 1967 in the U.K, resulting in the U.K being hailed as the 'Envy of the World' because of our pragmatic Drug-Policy. Looking at America it was seen that the U.K system - the British System - was far superior than that of the USA with drug gangs ,knives, guns. The U.K did not have this gangland violence at this point in history, so why do we copy so many of USA's failed drug policies?

  • @axvall Blame the United States for inspiring the first draconian international drug conventions/laws, and for meddling in the domestic affairs of nations all around the world in order to exert influence over the drug trade.

  • Great visuals and message, but PAINFUL music!! (elevator rock is NEVER a good choice)

  • I am from Sweden, and im NOT agree with my countrys drug policy!People with drugproblems are forced to live on the streets like dogs.Of course they get infected and must steal to survive. This is a typical situation in most countries.I blame the U.N for making people with sickness/problems live like streetdogs.

  • well, in many so called "Socialist" European countries drug addiction is already (or getting) under (psychiatric) Health care. During (experimental) programs where they get free drugs, drug addicts start to get normal life including jobs and stuff. Most will use less (decrease of stress), or even stop using. When using, they feel no difference as they had to shoot insulin - not as junkie but like a patient and having a worthy life.
