16"x20" Oil painting on stretched canvas by Ladessa Sullivan AKA CandyAcidReign

"She Threw The Sky" is the first piece in the "Nightmares & Reveries" Collection.

Artist Facebook Fan Page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/CandyAcidReign/51808039983

Music: 'Black Orchid' by Blue October

Artist Notes:

Have you heard the term "the sky is falling"?

Have you ever been so hurt & distraught by the sky falling on you again & again, that you felt like you could throw the sky? Have you ever thrown the sky... in frustration... pain, angst? What does it mean to "throw the sky"? What does it feel like to be fed up? Oh, and can you see the two male faces?

Much More: "There is so much art within me. So much ground I have yet to touch. Consider this another step. A huge stride. Different from what people have seen from me within painting, but not different at all from my drawings growing up. As a self taught artist, freedom is my whinsy. Spirit is my guide. I say this often, and I mean it from the bottom up. This piece, this collection is a new beginning. A spreading of my wings. Now, I lay naked before you... flaws and all. Beautiful and inadequate. Lost and found. Spiritually aware, and yet knowing nothing at all.

...because, I am full of fears that must be fought, just like some of you. So with the Love that aches in my soul, for a world that has not loved me back, I am putting myself out there with everything I share... hoping that I can touch someone, who is aching to be naked too."

Also: (I would like to dedicate this piece to my good friend Goya. Happy birthday sweetheart. It's no coincidence that I painted this on your birthday. Much Love.)

  • Thank you so much. I sure will.

  • 3 comments. The 1st is about the painting itself & the rest r about other things.

    1) Another beautiful painting. I've always loved how expressive u r when it comes 2 the eyes. They convey a profound sense of vulnerability & pain 2 me.

    2) Keep that hoody off. I like seeing ur hair:wild and free...like me :)

3)U always choose the right music 2 set the mood. U choose music that sounds like it belongs on the montage sequence at the end of every medical drama (House, Grey's Anatomy) Love it.

  • lol

1)Thank you... I vaguely remember someone describing my eyes the same way. ;)

2)whoah now! You like the tangle dangle nappy mohawk?! Can't see it fully in the vid, but yes...it's my version of a mohawk! I mean, hey, I wasn't gonna do my hair just to paint! I put the hood on because I like to hide a little.

3)LMAO! So funny, so true! Ha! I never thought about that. I love those montage sequences, & I tend to like the songs they use. The mood & strong lyrics. Love it.

  • Always a pleasure and an interesting experience watching you start off on blank canvas. Impressed with how you worked the portrait into the colorful background u painted.

Btw, were u working while on the phone...at some point 75% into the piece? :)

  • I really liked watching this one evolve! It turned out great. Love the use of color and I especially like how you did her eyes and I love the title of the piece too. *****
