Talks about organizing a Depeche Mode concert in Miensk started during preparations for a tribute album, "Personal Depeche," which was released in 2002. The producer, Ruslan Makarau, boasted that the band had approved all of the tracks for this Belarusian project and that Martin Gore had assured him that that he was quite satisfied with the professionalism of our Belarusian musicians. Unfortunately, Depeche never showed up for their tribute gala. Their absence was explained by claims that Messrs. Gore and Graham had just finished recording solo albums and were too tired to travel. The next plan was that the band would play a concert in Miensk the following year. The idea was to lure them away during a series of concerts in Moscow clubs. But the 2003 concert also fell through. The journalist Siarhiej Malinouski shares his opinion on why Depeche Mode will never make it to Belarus in our lifetime.
