In the time it took the security guards to chase these fellows 13 handbags were stolen from Harvey Nicks! Photography is not a victimless crime! Do Not Accept It! LOL ;-)
@presidentbongo, You're seeing the aftermath of the initial incident here. Members of the public were taking pictures of a 'striking' window display, they were in a public space when this happened. They were then approached by the private security guards and basically told what they were doing was wrong and a few other lies!
If it comes across that the photographer is being the antagonist then I would propose this was a defence mechanism towards the threatening behaviour displayed by rentacop
Under scots law if you are being followed down a street by anyone/security guards who are in striking distance and you have asked them too back of as you feel threatened and they do not then you are legally intitled to hit them if you feel threatened. This is classed as a pre-emptive strike for your own self defence.
In all honesty, having watched both clips, it seems like it is the photographer that is the problem, not security!! I'm pretty sure I would be annoyed if someone persistently stuck a camera in my face and recorded me! Had the photographer had simply respected anothers wishes this would not have happened! As for verbal assault and calling 999, grow up!
@KiiLL3N Yeah and that's the point isn't it? What the guy with the camera said when a couple of thugs were breathing down his neck on a public street.
I would be complaining to Edinburgh district council they have to have a licence to be doing that job. spend some time on it and you can give them a lot of hassle well done for standing up to them
why do ppl just open their mouths and let whatever come out?
well done for standing up to them.

@Plato413
Except by privacy the law applies to your private life, not your public one.
I.E. if you are in a public space you have no privacy but it is not a private space.
Sorry, but Article 8 of the HRA doesn't apply in this circumstance.
