The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District School is preparing to cut as much as $34 million from its budget next year.
Superintendent Jane Berenz said Monday during a School Board meeting that the district, despite making a $10 million adjustment last spring, joins many districts across Minnesota still struggling with below-inflation state funding increases over the last decade and delayed aid payments as part of Gov. Tim Pawlentys $3 billion unallotment plan.
The District 196 School Board will set its target reduction for the 2010-2011 school year later this month. Finance Director Jeff Solomon said the district could require an adjustment between $12 and $34 million depending on state funding.
A budget steering committee formed last month by the superintendent will present recommended spending cuts and revenue shifts to the School Board at a Jan. 25 workshop. The options will be made public in February.
Final recommendations are tentatively scheduled for the March 8 School Board meeting with a decision March 29.
