Porter Wagoner & Skeeter Davis
Recorded Feb/1962

GONNA FIND ME A BLUEBIRD
(Marvin Rainwater)

Gonna find me a bluebird let him sing me a song
Cause my heart's been broken much too long
Gonna chase me a rainbow through a heaven of blue
Cause I'm all through crying over you

There was a time my love was needed my life completed my dreams came true
Then came the time my life was haunted my love unwanted all for you

[ strings - steel ]
Gonna find me a bluebird...

  • Ernst, thak you so much for the posting. Porter Wagoner was a giant, and Skeeter Davis was incomparable. Together it is no wonder that they sounded so fantastic. "Bluebird" was one of those once in a lifetime great songs to begin with, but in the hands (or vocal chords) of Porter and Skeeter, it went to a new level. Made my day to hear it, and thank you for sharing it.

  • Thanks so much for posting this song. Its been so many years since Ive heard it. I just never heard it from these two great artists. Great rendition!

  • This is one of the best songs ever written. Marvin Rainwater had a big hit with it. Thank you for posting this.

    CARL

  • I bought the LP in he 60's, I still own it, it's in top condition and I never get to play it now. Maybe the Bear family might release it on cd, They have done so much good with old time country music. Long live Skeeter and Porter!

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL DUET

  • the very first country duet i heard growing up on a tiny island in the middle of the pacific ocean. they have anything as good now-a-days, eh.

  • That song is much better when it is done by Marvin Rainwater. He really makes it sound good.

  • My second best favourite version. Joyce Hahn's is still the best for me. None of the other singers seem to be able to avoid their Southern drawl over something especially beautiful.

  • ...this is just before skeeter recorded her classic ' the end of the world' and left porter for a solo career...!

  • thank u so much for this. my grandpa got in a bad car wreck and hes in the trauma unit now but he used to sing this song long long ago
