it may be the worst suikoden of them all but it is still very underrated, people should have gave it much more credit and i happened to like the atmosphere of the areas in this one, especially Middleport town (i think its called), the music was also pretty nice and well composed though ofcourse i liked the music better in Suiko2 and 3 but some people completely bash this game and say its not worth to try at all which simply isnt true, thats only for the weak in mind to think that way.

The game had a great pedigree. Suikoden 2 and 3 along with the original were so critically and fan acclaimed.

This game wasn't necessarily a bad game but it was just so underwhelming compared to the others that came before it.

yeah true but if those games didnt come out then people would have a change of an opinion so in a way the fact that there were previous suikoden's caused suikoden 4 all the criticism it got...i mean really my only problem with the game was the way you sailed in your ship, it was a pain with all those invisible barriers around...

Yeah the sailing killed this game. Take out the sailing and have a regular world map and the game scores go up dramatically.

It's a fun game. However, this is the first Suikoden game I've ever played... and... it was all a little confusing. The game doesn't give you much instruction or backstory. I recommend reading up a little. Despite its problems and age, Suikoden IV is a VERY entertaining game. I enjoyed it so much I beat the whole thing in about 3 days. So, yea, I'd recommend it. And it is great.

I did this and I was fine with it. Way better ending. You should have had Tal make the rope though. It would seem like he'd be better for wood-cutting because of his strength, but he has more rope-making experience from having been a sailor. Plus rope is a less in-demand resource-- once you have enough, you're probably still going to need a whole lot of wood (and food will always be in demand), at which point he could then simply help the others.

@Noah837 i'm actually giving this game a try. So far i'm enjoying, of course the random high encounter is annoying but we can run so thats np.

suikoden 2 is mostly OVERRATED. This game has its own merit ( though this is the worst in the series ). Suikoden fans must give this a try, I have played this 2x and i must say even if this is not comparable to its predecessors, its still an enjoyable game nonetheless. My Favorite is S5 by the way second is 2 ( because of its overratedness, my liking to S2 diminished sorry S2 fans )

This game is alright, but every other Suikoden is miles better and they are all more connected. I wish my brother hadn't gotten rid of the first 2.

This is probably the best ending in Suiko4, if not the Suikoden series altogether. Screw the war, I want a beach house!

It gets even better if you bring along Paula and Jewel.

OMG! 57 hours on this game and your ONLY that far? i spent 10 hours on it so far and im already at the kingdom of obel and i beat the boss dude that you have to fight in the ruins when you meet rikie! and you dont actualy live at the island. u get the coconuts and go into the cave to meet the mermaid...then do that three times...then beat the crab dude to get the cat dude back...but still you get my point.
