Do you know what a laparotomy is? Do you know what a laparoscopy is?

A laparotomy is a surgical procedure also known as an 'open' procedure where the surgeon will open your belly using a scalpel. This is a traditional style of surgery.

A laparoscopy is a procedure where the surgeon will use fiber-optic instruments to explore your abdomen. There are advantages to a laparoscopy including a shorter hospital stay and less down-time recuperating.
