Windy MELSA Quiet on the Set Short Film Contest

I wrote directed filmed and produced Windy for the Quiet on the Set Short Film Competition. The guidelines were to make a short film 5 min. or less, show a library card as a prop, show an interior and an exterior scene of any metro library. I was racking my brain trying to come up with a story that I could use my horse in but could not come up with anything so one morning I woke up with a memory of something that happened to me about 23 years ago when I went to visit some rancher friends out in SD, Ah there's my story with horses I thought! I was lucky to know that there were a few more brandings to work at so I went out that next weekend, hooked up with my friends, got my actors right there at the branding who were people working that day. Thank god that most people knew the story so it was easy to pull it off, I think we all had fun doing it. So actually it's based on a true story and this is what I put together.
Tonight Aug. 3rd is the Award Gala at the Riverveiw Theater. I have no expectations of wining but if I do I'll be pretty happy. It's been a fun adventure.

I'm glad you didn't exactly follow the rules. It may not have made the judges happy, but it sure made for a wonderful video, a cut and above the rest. The video shows off your talent, imagination, and skill. Keep at it!

The moral of this contest is that I finished a film and next time I enter a contest I will read all the rules through and take them for their word instead of going to the workshops or asking questions. There is no way of knowing what the judges actually are looking for. I'm just happy I finished a film and everyone who saw it at the screenings seemed to enjoy it by the response of the audience laughter. I'll keep making films and I hope all of you who entered will do as well. Terry

I asked at the workshop I went to at the library on Como Ave. if the film was to sell the library system and I was told that it was not to be a commercial for the libraries. I also was told to a scene of an indoor and outdoor scene of a library no mention of how long. After I shot the part out in SD I read all the rules that were on line and it did mention that 3 min. were to be in our outside the library. I called about this and the women who answered the phone said this would not be an issue.

Actually, the rules specifically state that the MAJORITY of the film must take place at a library. I too was disappointed with the films shown tonight. I think my film was much better than most of the honorable mentions... Check it out on our youtube page, click the movie title "The Library"

Thumbs UP! This video turned out fantastic!!! Especially after seeing the films that won awards.... This one should have been recognized! I mean it.  Too bad the judges were biased towards films that had "libraries" as the central theme. That wasn't part of the criteria. Wrong, judges! Next year, if that's what you want, state it in the rules!
