The Big Orkney Song Project travelled to Flotta for the 7th SongShare on Saturday 14 March 2009. This clip is Brian Cromarty (Salfishforty and The Chair) singing "An Orcadian Cradle Song". The author of the words, Rev Robert Menzies Fergusson, spent two summers in Flotta as a student minister in the 1870s. Although titled a 'song', no tune was known so Brian was asked to set it to music. This is only the first two verses, aided by the Song Shop Trio (l-r) Aimee Leonard, Sarah Jane Gibbon and Emily Turton. Find more on the project and mp3s of the songs sung at the workshop at http://www.orkneycommunities.co.uk/orkneysingers

  • What a lovely sound you guys make. Pity you didnt get the whole song on . You should try and put more of these old songs on and post the lyrics too. Keep up the good work, I will have to try and get along to one of these concerts. Cheers Dave

  • Awesome! Thanks from San Francisco. Gorgeous.
