  • Why would you rip Daniel for his his solos he is probably one of the better rock and fusion drummers out there check out his band Martone and you'll see how versatile he really is don't just look at one solo he did years ago music is an art which all musicians make you should never criticize anybody

  • @PoeticJustice05 theyre both amazing

  • you say this playing and solo is boring!....its like people just have to find somthing to bitch about

  • it's amazing how people just sit on their computers and just rip daniel for his solos when i bet any money on it that they can't do anybetter... put up or shut up... cuz the fact is they have nothing better to do than to stroke their ego...

  • The difference between Steve Gadd and Daniel Adair is that Mr. Gadd is a master of paradiddles, and he incorporates them in his drum beats, and they are one reason for why he is a groove master. Another reason is that he incorporates other styles into his playing. But I'll admit, Steve Gadd does play simple sometimes, but there are always subtleties in his playing that catch my interest. There is always something inspiring in his playing.

  • And yet he may very well get more enjoyment from playing this way when it comes to his solo. A lot of drummers experience this - They reach a certain level where they can play just about everything, but end up returning to the basics because what matters to them at the end of the day is about comfort of expression.

If you listen to solos by Steve Gadd, arguably one of the greatest groove players ever, you notice this - remember, everything comes down to pretty much singles and doubles anyway!

  • It's about expression. We're musicans, not scientists. But I guess, if he can only express himself with single stroke rolls then whatever.

  • My problem is that, with everything you can do on a drumkit, with all the possibilities, he chooses the most rudimentary of them all. If he were a great drummer, he could entertain a crowd and still put some creativity in his playing. That's my problem. The people don't have to know what you're playing, but that doesn't mean you should just stick to the basics. This is bland, and uninspiring.

  • There is no technique sacrificed here. Daniel is playing smoothly and confidently. Forcing yourself to utilize a rudimentary approach such as deliberately putting in paradiddles and polyrhythms so other drummers think you can play is simply dumb.

Also, when people are paying good money to see your show, its ALWAYS going to be about them. That doesnt mean you cant be a Mayer or Weckl with your playing, but just realize that most people in the small crowd wouldnt know a paradiddle if it bit them

  • You don't have to sacrifice technique for showmanship. A great paradiddle or a groovy polyrhythm can keep the audience engaged. But all he does is this basic stuff, and that one beat. The day we play for other people instead of ourselves is the day we stop being musicians, and start being a circus show. It may sound selfish, but you cannot express yourself if you're catering to other people's musical needs. That is the problem with mainstream music, there's no creativity or passion.
