I love this song. It's unsettling in a way. I get the political symbolism in the song, but on a personal level, this song describes some of my past relationships.
The idea of 'Fake Empire' I also love. Makes me think of the world as this huge place with lots of significance and yet no significance at all in the big picture. Like the reference to 'crystal city' in Lenders In The Temple by Conor Oberst (check it out if you haven't).
Anyway, I'm rambling, just wanted to get across how much I love this song. I did that, right? I did.
