@hoyageorge I can imagine...I had fun just watching it on here ♥♥

I can't believe the blogs on here . . . as though this ventriloquist act, dancing, singing, and all the rest of the "fluff" could possibly compete with the lady who won. She was a registered nurse working with dying individuals in an oncology unit.

@HazySunlight She does rock here; but remember, this year only, for some reason on that final night, it was announced that the final score was being evenly divided among prelims, and final night talent, swim suit and evening gown, and NOT as in previous year, with talent at 50% final night never know why they made that change but gary collins announces it before evening gown finals

@pa634ntf4n She is youngest according to the current rules ONLY; Miss America '33, won when she was 15; she lied about her age to enter the pageant.

@BarryKnightFan Also on the list of the best talent ever should be Shani Nielsen, Miss Indiana from the 96 pageant, the year Tara Holland won and became Ms America 97. Shani sang "In His Eyes" from Jekyll & Hyde on final night in top ten. Some pageant historians who chat in the community chat room on the Ms America site have said she is perhaps the best talent ever. Her pitch and intonation during that song is outstanding. It's worth buying the vhs or dvd from that yr for her talent alone.

For this year, scoring was changed during the pageant itself, announced on air just before the evening gown competition. Usually talent was worth 50% of the final score, but they changed the scoring so that everything scored was equal. So prelim scores, all swimsuit, evening gown, and talent were all 25% each. The next year it reverted back to the way it had been scored for years, only to change sometime in the 90's. I wonder if this affected Patricia & prevented her form winning the title.

To muscled57,
We have the same mind. I 100% agree on your comments of Paige Phillips, Suzette Charles, and Gretchen Carlson. With Patricia Brandt would add up to the top 5 talents ever. Also in contention are Debbye Turner in 1990, Marisol Montalvo in 1992, Titilyo Adedokun in 1994, Miss NY in 1996, and Miss OK in 2003.

OMG, I'm in love!!! LOL This why I don't watch these pageants anymore - no more mind-boggling kitsch acts like this. When she got 1st runner up to Rafko - the chick who kept hitting herself in her talent act - I knew entertainment in the USA was in an irreversible slide into mediocrity.
