Perhaps one of the most common issues that you can run into early on in your RC life can revolve around transferring the power from your motor to the transmission. Two gears are used for this purpose and the alignment of these gears can have a dramatic impact on the performance of your vehicle. Setting the gear mesh on your car or truck can be vitally important to preventing a gear failure or overheating your motor. We pulled a transmission out of a Losi HIGHroller to demonstrate the proper way to set your gear mesh in a few simple steps.

  • Horizon RCdotcom, I have a tamiya TT-01 Shaft Driven 4wd. How do i set the gear mesh for my car?

  • @Ch2is86 I believe the TT-01 has a fixed gearing but I am not 100% sure. I'll have some more info for you soon.

  • @HorizonRCdotCom i dont want to feel stupid but what is the gear mesh and how does ie help

  • @robbyadkins The gear mesh is the gap between the pinion and spur gears. You need to have some play in there otherwise things will bind up. Too much is bad because it can slip and strip the gears.

  • im gearing my b4 with a 17.5 at 32/72 and my motor is 150 degrees after 5 minutes it is an x12 and would upgrading my sxx competition to a stock spec make a noticeable difference

  • @FLUFFINATORofCA Are you looking to change the performance or to change the temp? 150 isn't horrible actually, I run that same motor in my SC Truck and it gets a little hotter than that. I have one of those Stock Spec ESC's that will be going in our FT SC10 review we will be doing. I have seen the performance of that ESC/Motor combo before and it's extremely impressive.
