From Wikipedia:
Toronto Rocks was an hour-long television program presenting music videos on CITY-TV in Toronto, Canada in the 1980s, starting in 1984. It aired live at 16:00 weekdays and was initially hosted by John Majhor. Majhor was a longtime DJ at 1050 CHUM AM in Toronto and eventually became one of Canada's first "VJs" with the development of music videos. Toronto Rocks was a predecessor to MuchMusic and MTV, and had kids rushing home from school every day to catch their favourite videos of the early 80's.
Sadly John Majhor passed away in 2006

  • This is the late John Majhor (died Jan 07). Not JD Roberts.

  • Yes, I indicated that in the tags

  • @Etobeeshawn It was only a 1/2 hour show. I remember rushing home from school to watch Thriller (1984) debut, and they could only play 2 other videos because Thriller was so long.

  • RIP John and Aldo.......

  • For some reason I always thought Toronto Rocks made its debut before 1984. Every source I come across says it debuted in '84. And I thought TR was a 1 hour show. Can somebody confirm to me if TR debuted before '84 or is my memory becoming more fuzzy and when did they extend the show another half hour. I thought I knew for sure that the show started at 4:00 for 1 hour but I don't know now. I remember Toronto Rocks from 4-5 and Video Hits on CBC from 5-530

  • @sweiland75 I think he was actually a DJ on Q107 or Chum FM....

  • @Fibr3Optix He did, but only as fill-in. He also hosted NewMusic and the first MuchMusic shows.

  • I thought JD Roberts (now on CNN moring) did this show in the 80s?

  • I don't remember anyone named John Mahjor on MuchMusic.

  • TORONTO I LOVE YOU...... I HAVE BEEN AWAY SINCE 2000 I WANT TO COME BACK

  • John Majhor was the bomb and Toronto Rocks was an amazing show. That studio they shot that in was like having a camera in my closet. :)

Toronto Rocks and CityLimits were 80% of my teen years. (I still have my Toronto sweatshirt from when they did giveaways at the live Toronto Rocks shows at the CNE...we saw Bowie...)
