The opening of 史劲松 Shi Jinsong's "Ne Zha -- A Child's Boutique". Ne Zha has frequently appeared in Chinese Mythology and ancient Chinese Literature such as the Fengshen Yanyi, he is a child warrior who refuses to grow up. In this video from the exhibition, you see Shi Jinsong's creation of Ne Zha's suit of armor, tricycle, rocking horse, chainmail tunic, helmets, gauntlets and razor skooter, all made of highly polished stainless steel.
I suppose you could read that aspect into it, however, these items are the belongings of a mythical figure in China, named Ne Zha. Ne Zha is a child warrrior, therefore by necessity his toys are weapons.
The observation you suggest did not at all occour to me. From my observation of Shi Jinsong's work, if he were to be addressing the matter you speak of, I think he would not be so heavy handed about it.

These look more like weapons than toys, do you think there is a subdued message about China's growing world influence?
