Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood. Fred Rogers

Early in 2007, a group of Will County residents, composed of educators, parents and business owners, met to explore the possibility of opening a childrens museum in Will County. The all-volunteer KidsWork Board of Directors was founded on April 4, 2007, and since that date, achieved not-for-profit status, secured funding for build out and exhibits, and opened as a Play Escape in December, 2008, formally launching as a museum in June, 2009. Today, the Board of Directors can claim that this was truly a great idea starting the first and only childrens museum in Will County, by tracking almost 19,000 visits from a 30-mile radius.

KidsWork Childrens Museums mission is to provide a cultural institution that brings children, families and the community together to encage in fun, hand-on interactive play that will nurture life-long learning and discovery. Children today need the freedom and time to play play is how children learn and the museum is happy to provide that opportunity.

The Board of Directors of the museum is constantly striving for improvements, additions and enhancements to the museum and has worked tirelessly to achieve their goals. Families and children from all over can now enjoy the benefits of what this museum brings to the region.
