One of President Obama's key allies in the 2008 election may have just become his worst enemy. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka has expressed his disappointment with the administration's policies and focus on deficits rather than jobs before. Speaking at a press breakfast yesterday, hedoubled down, and went on attack, saying the President has aligned himself with the Tea Party. Mike Elk from In These Times joins Alyona to discuss.

  • NO MORE LABOR SUPPORT FOR DEMS! Insted of crying about how the GOP is worse, how about forming a labor party a challenging the two party dictatorship?

  • Maybe they'll support the Green Party instead of one of the Corporate parties. Obama isn't the least bit liberal - he's a corporatist. Corporate Democrats are worse than Republicans because they speak like they're allies to working and poor people, but will follow the banksters and Wall Street over the cliff to get those campaign donations and screw everyone else.

  • Obama went to Mexico and refused to kill NAFTA. Obama is no friend of the working man in America.

  • Unions have traditionally opposed campaign finance reform, and now people like the Koch brothers have beat them at their own game of buying influence through campaign donations, who could have seen that coming (anyone with a brain)

  • Its a Nice Thought Labor: Too Little Too Late- Its a Shotgun Wedding- No Longer a Date- Hard Work is Despised- While Corruption is Praised- Moral Bankruptcy- It Was Just a Phrase- Now it Only Conjures Feelings of Disdain- Corruption is King! And Morality is Now Considered Vain.
  • @autonomia386 Good post, however, working class has this ideology that communism is good for them, when in fact it is the exact opposite, so if a labour party did come about, it would follow a Marxist ideology, and that is the most inhuman and even inhumane ideology possible, possibly worse then corporatism/fascism of today. Between the two evils, I'm not sure which is worse. The only virtuous political position by default is one based on liberty, one which treats people as more then sheep.

  • If Democrats behave like Republicans what's the point in having a Dem in the White House. I say vote them all out.

  • No more labor union support will be bad news for the democrats but good news for the republicans. I PERSONALLY AM very dissapointed with Obama but considering the alternative which could be a Christian Taliban under Bachman or

the texan nut or the centerfold presidency of Mitt (Mutt) my vote will still go to Obama.there is a light at the end of the tunnel. THINGS CANT BE BAD FOREVER.Everything follows a cycle

  • this just in: union leaders are politicians, too

  • Weak wristed unions.

  • This jerk just said "Walker was first trying to negotiate before illegally passing the union stripping bill". What?! Who is this nut? A Walker mole?

  • @autonomia386

Third parties in the US are doomed to fail because of the entrenched system. When Ron Paul ran as a Libertarian in 1988 he is quoted as saying he had to spend more than one third of his energies and monies just to get on state ballots... for some states it was "nearly impossible".

I'm afraid we're stuck with the Republicrat duopoly for a long time.
