http://www.weigend.com - Many people are asking: What is the Social Data Revolution? Here is the 4-minute video answer!

Presentation by Andreas Weigend (Andreas S. Weigend, Ph.D.). Mankind is transformed by the data created by individuals. Information overload has become more serious than ever. Social discovery is the new search. What applications can we build to create relevant meaning in our lives?

Extract Insights from Twitter
Put Yourself in Google's Shoes
Develop Relevance Beyond Amazon
Build Revolutionary Facebook Applications

In the last year, your location and personal medical information have become the latest streams in the river of data, joining email, clicks, searches, social networking, and buying patterns. Gathering, sharing, and storing data has become trivial. But what shall we collect, and what applications can we build that users really need?

Data mining is no longer the process of digging through data morgues to uncover scraps of still-viable information. Success in the online marketplace now hinges on people and the data they create. E-business is no longer about selling books.

Students: Lead the Social Data Revolution by taking STATS 252 this Spring (Data Mining and E-Business, 3 units). Undergrad, grad, and SCPD students with web programming experience are welcome. Enroll using Axess ID 10584.
