Earlier in the drawing series it was suggested that most objects are composed of simple shapes.

This video takes the cube, cone and sphere. Take a look at old machines and buildings and you can see that architects and designers have used combinations of these simple object shapes. The reason is partly because they are easier to manufacture than the compound curves used in todays manufacturing processes.

Whereas, old technology was limited, relying more upon craftsmen, skilled machinists and tool operators. I recall a time when designs would be done by a draughtsman on a drawing board. At times the results were pure art in their own right... a true craft skill.

Nowadays, modern computer technology encourages the use of free-form shapes in design with the knowledge that ideas can be made real. This is a time of magic made real, limited only by imagination.

It is better to get to grips with simple stuff and get it right. Draw and shade as many basic objects and the rest will come easily... Your artistic confidence will sky-rocket.
