multi-reedist, percussionist, and pianist Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain (tablas/sufi vocals) and Eric Harland (drums/percussion/piano) form Sangam - a trio meshing the sensibilities of world music and open-minded jazz to form a confluence of sounds
I wholeheartedly agree, and though you took more words to say it, what I think you are saying is that he plays with soul and feeling. That's what separates the men from the boys in any from of artistic expression. There are far too many sax players today who have studied Coltrane and Brecker and can play a lot of notes very fast, but they don't seem to have anything to say. Lloyd has "something to say."
Shoot, I just recently picked up this album and I always wondered where that damn bass was coming from when I heard this track in particular-lol!!! Had NO idea it was coming from the piano, awesome...
I'm 27, but I first got into Charles Lloyd via the Mosaic Records homepage (they reissued his 'Of Course,Of Course' LP from Columbia not too long ago). Then once I caught wind of his later period ECM recordings (begininng with 1997's 'Canto') I realized he may be one of the truly great reedmen of our time. Very spiritual, but always on point. Plays with a sure purpose, but is never too busy to draw out the inner beauty of whatever he's playing. I really dig that of him...
all the brothers come together play music from their hearts. I wish world will be like this some day.
Peace and love

I got my tickets for the concert they're doing at Carnegie Hall at the end of this month. Naturally, I'm pretty psyched.
