One of the coolest features of the new Saeco Xelsis one-touch superautomatic is that it also comes with a traditional steam wand (no panarello!) that's backed up with a fair amount of power. In fact, this could be the best steam wand function on a superautomatic to date. Gail demonstrates how to use it and talks about some of the features of the Xelsis.

Yes - they have similar steam functionality and wand design. - Kat

Hello, great video's! Quick question, why is it that my xelsis shoots out the espresso even when it's set at the strong setting on the SBS dial? It just doesn't drip out like it does in this video, which is what I prefer... Can something be done?

I'd check the grind that you you're using -- the SBS dial isn't going to affect speed of extraction, but the grind most definitely will. I'd check grind and then dosage (make sure it's at the highest level -- 10 grams) and then go from there. Let me know how it goes - Kat

Kat, you compare to the Rocket and mention "boiler and thermo block combo". So what exactly is the heating mechanism for generating steam: boiler? thermo-block (as in Breville)? In general, what heating mechanism do super-automatics use? Thermo-blocks?

It has smaller boilers and then heating element that kicks up the temperature for the Rapid Steam functionality so you can switch between the functions really quickly. Because the boilers are smaller, they tend to have wetter steam; something like the Rocket has larger available volume to build up drier steam. Superautos use different heating processes depending on manufacturer; Saeco's machines that have 'Rapid Steam' do it this way. - Kat

Now that's a cappuccino! It looks a lot better than the cup milk with two coffee dots of the last video. I wouldn't really care for that.
