Daniël Sims, General Manager of Mitsubishi R&D of America, Inc. Design Studio, was kind enough to extensively explain the design of the new Outlander SUV to us inside the Mitsubishi Design Studio. In the interview he explained the design philosophy behind this C-segment offering from Mitsubishi, who the target audience was, what the objectives were, how much of an influence the current concerns with fuel prices and consumption were with this design, and the global platform of this, since, as we now know, this is also the basis for offerings from Peugeot and Citroën.
Subsequently Dan walks us around the exterior and the interior of the car and points out all the areas of particular concern during the development. And to close it all off, we have samples of the complete design development, all the sketch work, the decisions, the scale and full size models and the color&trim info for you, both in the episode as well as for download directly from our site. With the introduction of the Mitsubishi Outlander the company wants to clearly take a step forward in the medium sized SUV market.
great car - got an '08 XLS and love it. But what the hell is up with the volume on this video?!

Drove my roommates '07. Great car, quick but I wish it would handle better. Trying to go around curves at 80mph can be kinda quirky at times.

what's the cost of repairs if you back into a pole with that tailgate/bumper combo? Ouch! Don't be shocked when you get the insurance cost statement!
