Tonight at 9 p.m. ET President Bush will address the nation in response to this week's congressional testimony by Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Crocker and triumphantly announce the withdrawal of some 30,000 U.S. troops from Iraq by next summer. Call it a cold hunch, but we have a feeling he will link the drawdown directly to "progress on the ground," or "facts on the ground," possibly "signs of success on the ground." Something to do with the ground. But what's the real story behind the troop withdrawal? In today's episode of TPMtv we attempt to preemptively inoculate you against the President's spin by watching the administration getting its story straight in real time, with a little help from Press Secretary Tony Snow, who delivered a magisterial performance in his final televised press briefing ...

  • The only thing I want to hear from Bush tonight is: WHEN IS HE & CHENEY RESIGNING???

  • Tony Snow is such a good spinner.Unfortunately this is a very, Very serious and his side-stepping is an old, tired dance. And we know who he has to answer to.

  • Baby needs a nap! Man you don't never but ever say "I give up?!!" Man you just don't do that. If that arm can move you keep digging until he says stop or your arm stops moving. You don't get to "give up". What does he think this is? A bad episode of cheers? It's the real world ppl.

  • This is hilarious. Thank you, Veracifier.

  • Love how Tony "gives up" bullshiting reporters who won't accept the crap he's selling. That's like an older couple buying a car, asking what kind of mileage it gets, then being told, "Plenty". When they ask for the specific mileage to make an educated decision, the salesman says, "Look, it's obvious you don't understand mileage or the facts of this gas tank. The mileage per gallon doesn't matter b/c it has a radio". When they still persist, the salesmen yells "I give up". Incredible!

  • how many more lies, wasted money and even more importnat how may lifes do we have to take to impeach Bush andhis whole fucking cabinet? Come on dont tell me this country is not corrupt and racist as much or probably worst than any other country in the world. How is it that busting a nut on a lady worst than inecesary waste of tax money, unecesary waste of lifes, and all of them brought to us with a buch of lies and deseptions.

  • Yeah, WE knew it - but I guess the admin is banking on the general public not knowing it.

And it seems like they're gonna get away with it.

  • particularly when a holy war seems to be taking shape here at home.

  • we loose our jobs and homes... our children and pets are poisoned... I smell a bloody revolution in the Moriah Conquering Wind...

  • Is it possible that these White House spin guys are unaware that their military people are giving interviews and that those interviews are widely available ? Can it really be that they think it is 1958 and that there is no mass communication or aggressive journalism ? Maybe they wrap up these news conferences thinking to themselves, " well, that aught to hold 'em for a while"?

  • I'm glad to see that Tony Snow finally gave up. It's about time.

  • Thank you.
