My father met Gene Autry in around 1938 when he had a concert in Texarkana (the Princess Theatre). My dad said he got to sit on his lap (my dad was 7 years old back then). And Gene gave him an autographed photo of himself. My dad gave me that photo when I was around 15. I cherish it so. RIP, Daddy (1931-2003).

My childhood hero and favorite cowboy bar none! I used to go watch double features of his movies in Jimmy's home town.

I love Gene Autry! He was my childhood hero. And I love Jimmie Rodgers . No one could sing with the power he had. I like the way it was just him and his guitar! Thanks for posting this! :)

WOW!! Gene Autry was another who could near master Jimmie's voice, Until he got into the Movies And then developed his own voice and style, And Gene was my child hood Hero along with Roy Rogers...All my Hero's are gone now Including Jimmie Rodgers and The One and Only Johnny Cash (The Man in Black) ...

Jimmy Rodgers put the Western into Country and Western, and what a loss to this type of Music when the Country part was dropped.

Normally "tribute songs" are pretty awful.Gene,however,does a very plain and honest tribute to his friend and I think it's great!Thanks for posting!
