the bush administration has made so many messes people cannot keep up with the wreckage. One mess that has gone little noticed is the de regulation of the mining industry which of course ultimately lead to a rash of fatal mining accidents. That PISSES ME OFF. Hence the song: Appalach.ia-
Deep in the old state of Virginia
Back in the Adirondacks
Along the cold creek hollows
Where the stones are chewing down
Stand rows of neat houses
With Kids on the lawn and Clothes on the line
Where mining families are still living
A hard life in the best of times
Black lung took their grandfathers
Methane took their dads
Cave-ins took their brothers
Now Greed takes thier sons
from the front rooms of the beltway
from restaurants and Scottish links
over cocktails and hours d'oeuvres
the entitled trade in lives
For two cents a ton more profit
For ten cents a ton more profit
From up on the hill
The clown posse's hypotheses
And political appointees
Fail yet again
oh lord don't they love
to wave the flag and pray
but in the end
it's our blood-blood that they crave
Working inside mountains
Extracting the black veins
That fueled the fires in Pittsburg
Smelting the steel that fills the Manhattan sky
Working inside mountains
Extracting the black veins
That Drove locomotives across the Great Plains
Pulling the sea to shining sea
Working inside mountains
Extracting the black veins
Spinning machines and stamping Detroit Iorn
And crushing the rock beneath your tires
Working inside mountains
Extracting the black veins
Fueling the giant turbines that put life into the wires
So that we can turn on tee-vee
And watch them puff And tell their lies
For two cents a ton more profit
not in my name.
For ten cents a ton more profit
not in my name.
For ten bucks a ton more profit
Not in my name
Not in my name

Sorry, but to me he don't sing, play guitar or sound like a "local" boy. And of course there's no Adirondacks down here. I think he's looking for a cause. Maybe "save the whales" or something would have been a better choice.

Great song! Someone ought to help you put that out on the airwaves so everyone can hear it. The mountains are being raped, true, and it's ugly. My grandparents owned a mountain out in Pound, VA and they came along and bought the ridge and holler out and stripped it clean. Ugliest thing I've ever seen. It's sad. There has be a better way. My grandpa had brown lung, too, from the mines. Keep singing...stay pissed...and I hope this finally stops! God bless you man!!!

...but the Adirondaks are in NY. I'm sorry if this has been brought up but it doesn't make any sense to me. I grew up in the St Lawrence river valley near the Adirondaks.
