@aca319ca, I was having trouble getting my Checkmate Predictor (16ft) on plane with a 135 Evinrude (1979). I could get it on plane but it was struggling to much to do it. I checked to see if all of my cylinders were firing and #3 was not. I replaced the coil and everything was good. I am not sure of that is your problem or not, but it might be.

@aca319ca bad compression or a scored cylinder
do a compression test it will tell you allot about your engine true condition
and if it has a bad piston the cylinder can be fixed and new top end for the hole motor for allot cheaper then you think if you can do the work your self

@16sidewinder Would be possible to do it with a 74 1500 tower of power?

@snareLINEVI need to pull the powerhead and take the midsection off to get the exhaust liner (can) out. Then you need an angle grinder to cut the lower fins so you can drill (5 x 1/2" holes) and then some sanding sticks to round the edges. Theres other ways to do it that may be easier but that is how I did it
