Michael Jordan stunned the Bulls and the NBA when he announced his retirement in 1993. In the fall of 1993, in his prime and at the summit of the sports world, Michael Jordan walked away from pro basketball. After leading the Dream Team to an Olympic gold medal in 1992 and taking the Bulls to their third consecutive NBA championship the following year, Jordan was jolted by the murder of his father. Was it the brutal loss of such an anchor in his life that caused the world's most famous athlete to rekindle a childhood ambition by playing baseball? Or some feeling that he had nothing left to prove or conquer in basketball? Or something deeper and perhaps not yet understood? Ron Shelton, a former minor leaguer who brought his experiences to life in the classic movie "Bull Durham," will revisit Jordan's short career in the minor leagues and explore the motivations that drove the world's most competitive athlete to play a new sport in the relative obscurity of Birmingham, Alabama, for a young manager named Terry Francona.

  • @UDubFootballFan If it was a mafia hit for a gambling debt wouldn't MJ be able to pay that off? he was rich. But one thing I don't get that if it is true, if this was a mafia hit, doesn't it seem kind of fishy that James Jordan, Michael's father stopped on the side of the road and fell asleep in his car? who does that =s I'm assuming if you're the father of Michael Jordan if you were too tired to drive on the road, you can have a chauffeur drive u around?

  • He left cause the NBA and him and the Bulls know his dad was killed because his dad's death. It was a mafia hit for gambling debt.

  • @michaeltiao8 His Dad was a basketball player.

  • @Amino2 This comment was written by the family of Ronald Goldman...Kidding. I absolutely agree. I like the Arnold Palmer commercials with O.J. That was a great way to tie it together.

  • You cannot compare Magic's game to anyone else. That is what makes him unique. Kobe seems to be driven by influence which contributes to his greatness.

  • @wornoutshoes11 They also have different personalities. Kobe is hyper-competitive and Magic is very laid-back and gregarious. Kobe seems like he wants more and Magic seems content. Magic is an amazing business man. You can also compare Kobe's Eagle Colorado incident and Magic acquiring AIDs. They are very different they have won Championships playing guard positions for the Los Angeles Lakers. They both have larger than life personalities.

  • @24Reference kobe is "more athletic" than magic not a "better athlete" like u said. that's the only thing he has on magic...

  • You wonder what would have happened if he didn't quit after the 3rd championship. I believe they would have won again and maybe more in a row

  • @moopman

    Bugs bunny :D

  • baseball was his dad's passion, but basketball is HIS passion.
