I am just learning to crochet and find it difficult to follow a pattern at the moment, It also doesnt help when you get conflicting info, is there a difference between English/American crochet as i bought a new magazine with free dvd how to crochet. Before watching the dvd i have been using youtube and the stitches i have learnt are the same as your video, but the dvd is different Single crochet same as slip stitch?? and double crochet on dvd is single crochet on youtube??? confusing

Great question! Historically speaking, "British English Crochet Terms" came first, then came "American English Crochet Terms." These days, pattern writers from the UK & Australia tend to use British crochet terms. Those from the Americas, Eastern Europe, Middle Eastern and Asian countries tend to use American English terms. Double Crochet in British is Single Crochet in American. Treble Crochet in British is Double Crochet in American. Slip stitch is still slip stitch in both. (see 2nd msg)

(continued from first msg) If you have a UK publication, it's safe to say British terms are used. If it's an American publication, it's probably American terms. Parts of Europe can be a mix - assume American terms unless they specifically say "British Crochet Terms" in the pattern. How I usually tell is if I see the picture has small stitches, yet the term "Double Crochet" is used when it looks like American single crochets. The term "Single Crochet" does not exist in British crochet :)

Hi, thanks for your videos, they are really helpful. Could you please show how you do the second row for the double crotchet, when you turn, do you still skip the first three? I do that and my work keeps shrinking in width. Thanks a lot!

I have a hard time figuring out where to stop in a row. My edges are always a little wonky. Every tutorial just shows how to do the stitches. Where can I find the answers that I need?

I live in Australia and just learned how to knit a few years ago and decided I would learn crochet before I turned 70, getting close. I have just learned to crochet thanks to you. I had to write out the instructions for each stitch for further reference but I am well on my way making a doll blanket for my granddaughter. My sister has tried several times to teach me when I was young and a few years ago when I was back in the States, she will be so proud of me. Thank you.
