Add &fmt=18 at end of URL for STEREO sound. Quick demo of a compact and inexpensive drum synthesizer. It has 5 voice channels: Bass, Synth, Snare, Hi Hat and Metal (in ascending order on machine). One cool feature about this machine is that the Snare and Hi Hat channels feature both "open" and "closed" variants. You can here the "closed" snare on notes 5 & 13 (on a typical 16th note Roland x0x style pattern) and the "open" snare on note 8 (same note step I have the "synth" sound programmed on). Only real compaint I have with this instrument is that the MIDI note numbers are fixed and cannot be reassigned. The MIDI Channel is assigned using 4 dip switches on the rear panel. The rear panel has stereo outs (which I used with the front panel pan pots in this demonstration) and individual outs for outboard processing and/or mixing. The LED for the Metal channel is out on this particular unit. The sounds are sequenced via Roland TR-909 External Instrument mode. If you''re craving some fresh drum sounds and cannot afford the Vermona DRM-1, this is a great alternative. The bass on this demo is pretty low and cannot be heard on my crappy lap top speakers. Enjoy and be sure to check out my other videos of synths, drum machines and effects.

  • Hi, I bought one of these and I love the sounds, however, I don't really quite understand how to hook it up to MIDI, I take it that the switch at the back determs which channel will be "1" and up, from 1-4, I have it set on 4 and has assigned a MIDI OUT from my Machinedrum to it but its just quiet on every tone, same thing when I try changing MIDI channels and switches on the back of the ADX. Do you know where to find a manual or how to set it up? Thanks

  • @narki86 I went to Google and typed in "MAM ADX 1 Manual" and the result right below my video link was a link to the manual. Are you saying that the sounds are quieter when triggered from your SPS-1 than when you press the manual trigger buttons? If so, check the settings on the SPS-1 to see what MIDI velocity level is being transmitted. Maximum MIDI velocity is 127. Try triggering the ADX-1 from a velocity sensitive keyboard as well.

  • cool nice unit can ya tell if it is poss to play chords with the 909 external parts so that playing back patterns you have different chords in patterns cheers out.

  • The 909's External Instrument mode will transmit triggers on MIDI note numbers 36 through 51. So it is possible to trigger chords in that note range, but you will need to program your sound with 4' or 2' octave settings. What most people use the Ext Inst mode for is to trigger drum samples along with the 909's internal sounds.

  • Actually, the Vermona DRM and MAM ADX-1 do not sound remotely the same. Perhaps some of the same designers were involved, but they are completely different designs. I've had both and there is hardly any overlap in the sound. The MAM is more unconventional sounding. Generally a lot less useful than a DRM, but it has a couple of unique sounds and features that make it a keeper for me.

  • Yes, I was noticing that unique sound! Particularly on that snare - it's almost "chiptune" but sharper. Interesting, wouldn't mind having both.

  • Hi, no they aren't quiter, they won't trigger at all (no LED flash either), can't believe I've been so blind, googled the very same thing you suggested and missed.. ;) I'll check it out, hopefully I'll figure out what to do, thanks for your response and help!

  • Hi I just picked one up but unfortunately the bass section does not work. Do you know of anyone out there who has done work to one of these and if so please send me a message. Schematics would be great, I havent been able to find much on it.

    great video please post more.

  • interesting.. did this come before the first version of the DRM-1 or between the DRM-1 and the DRM-1 mk2?
