Whirling Dervishes of Istanbul having arisen from "Contemporary Lovers of Mevlana" formed in 1989 by his spiritual leader Hasan Dede. The group is composed of five soufi music masters and 14 dervishes performing in Sema ceremonies and Sufi music concerts in Turkey and abroad. Whirling Dervishes of Istanbul has the particularity to gather man and woman members during ceremonies and performances.
Having members from different nationalities, the group, under the guidance of Hasan Dede, strives to keep alive sufi philosophy of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi.
