Major DOolitte, as in Dr., and Fox would also release that movie in 1967.

There were no 20th Century-Fox openings in Paul Terry's cartoons (just a distribution notice at the start or end of the film), 'masoud'. This was originally released at the end of December 1939, but the copyright notice was intended for "general release" that January. Arthur Kay [who voiced "Gandy Goose"] is the "Lion" {doing a Lahr impression} and "The Hyena".

It says it's distributed by 20th Century-Fox, but there is no 20th Century-Fox logo at the beginning. Why?

@deadlyshoesalesman Yeah maybe

Doesn't the lion bear a striking resemblance to Bert Lahr as the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz?

@cubantoro I guess this lion is supposed to be an imitation of Bert Lahr. The Cowardly Lion is so familiar to us now, though, that this early impression of him feels off the mark.

This cartoon was actually released in 1940

@KrazyKartoonKid Are you sure? Leonard Maltin's "Of Mice and Magic" lists it as appearing at the very end of 1939.

@deadlyshoesalesman Well the copyright year says MCMXL which are the roman numerals for the year 1940.

@KrazyKartoonKid I hadn't noticed that. Unless Maltin is wrong, they must have released the short just a few days before the copyright year.
