This song emanates from the UK and was written by orchestra leader Billy Reid who also wrote 'The Gypsy.' The song became a number 1 in the States for Margaret Whiting in 1948 staying on the chart for 23 weeks. This version by Marty comes from his 1977 album 'Don't Let Me Touch You.' Other singers to have recorded the song include Al Jolson, Frank Sinatra and Connie Francis. Regarding Reid's songs 'The Gypsy' and 'A Tree In The Meadow', it's a pity that songs like this don't seem to get written nowadays. It seems that melody, lyric and romance have all gone out the window in this day and age. Pity.
