My 1953 Super M on the dynamometer at the Old Timers Days festival in Xenia, Ohio, on September 25th, 2010. The sounds of other engines and tractors in the area (especially a nice John Deere A, heard but not seen at the end of the clip) make it hard to hear the Super M bear down as the dyno loads it up, but it sounds pretty good from about 1:30 to 1:50 or so.

Some previous owner did a good job restoring and rebuilding this tractor. On this test, it dyno'd at 57 horsepower. I ran it again the following day and it tested at 53. Either one sounds mighty good to me.

Many thanks to the kind folks at Valley Automotive & Tractor Repair for sharing their time and their dyno.

  • What kind of power did it make? I'd love to add a Super M to my fleet.

  • 57 hp on the first test (the one in the video), although that was the dynamometer's first run of the day so it may not have been fully warmed up. 53 hp on the second test, which was on the afternoon of the following day and is probably more realistic. Either way I was very happy, and it was fun to hear the old girl run under load for a while.

  • what john deere is that thats running?

  • It was a nice old model A, just out of the picture to the right. I think its operator was driving it up to be next on the dyno, or perhaps to hook up to some other piece of equipment in the area. I love that two-cylinder sound and would like to have an A or a 60 myself someday.

  • nice looking tractor!!

  • Thanks! I had one very much like it about a dozen years ago and always regretted selling it, so when this one came along I just had to have it.
